Last week Careers provided our STEM group and cluster group pupils with an exclusive opportunity to visit the new all electric bus depo being built in Warrington. Mr Musgrove, Miss Silver and Miss Clements-Paterson all attended the visit and were all very excited to enable our pupils to access such a rare project. This is the first ever fully electric bus depo being constructed across Europe.
Glenn and Hayleigh, both working on this huge project took the time to educate our pupils on the importance of the Construction Sector, the opportunities, scope, and roles are endless. There is area several different routes into the industry too, Hayleigh studied Quantity Surveying at University, where Glenn the Project Manager enrolled into an apprenticeship at 18 and worked his way up.
Both individuals explained the processes and planning that goes into such large-scale projects, for this one daily there has been 80 men on site, and throughout the months of construction 40 different trades have been needed to complete the build.
In the future there will only be electric busses, but whilst the Government are phasing out the current diesel busses, this depo can facilitate both busses through the gradual change over.
All our pupils before going on site had to ensure their hard hats were secure and their hi-vis jackets were fastened. Everyone was well behaved, listened to the site manager when he was explaining the different buildings and elements of the structure. Pupils were patient when walking around, taking in their surrounding and ultimately could envision themselves in the future becoming Civil Engineers or in the Engineering Industry.
It was a brilliant experience for our young pupils to be a part of, it has sparked even more of an interest with individuals having this trip out and seeing workers in action.
We will hopefully be visiting again once the build is complete!
